Ryan Malone, Director of Claim Product Management, Travelers Investigative Services
In this 45-minute presentation, we delve into the intricate world of developing fraud schemes driven by generative AI across multiple media formats. From fabricated images and videos to deceptive audio and text content, we’ll uncover the unsettling ways in which AI-powered technologies are exploited for fraudulent purposes. By exploring real-world examples and discussing the underlying techniques, we’ll shed light on the potential risks and consequences of these schemes. Moreover, we’ll discuss the challenges to detect, mitigate, and combat generative AI-driven fraud, emphasizing the importance of technological vigilance and ethical considerations in our increasingly AI-driven world. Join us on this insightful journey into the evolving landscape of digital deception and the countermeasures essential to safeguarding trust and authenticity.
Ryan Malone serves as Director of Claim Product Management at Travelers Investigative Services and is responsible for product line relations, operations, learning and development, proactive services, technology, and innovation strategies. Ryan was involved in the development and implementation of the digital forensic evidence and collision data retrieval programs at Travelers.  Ryan started his insurance career as a liability claims adjuster with Travelers in 2002, quickly aligning with the Special Investigations Unit field team and gaining increasing levels of responsibility through more than twenty years of service. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a BS degree in Criminal Justice gaining practical knowledge along the way by serving as a licensed emergency medical technician and volunteer firefighter within his community.

Social Media Discussion with the @OSINTMillennial
Melissa Jones, Investigator, Crum & Forster
Come discover new ways of mining social media profiles in this ever-changing cyber world using strategic OSINT techniques.  In this session, we will discuss methods of finding information on a variety of platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Venmo.  Social media and other OSINT findings have proven to be incredibly helpful in rooting out fraud or leveraging reductions in settlement.  It’s important to be up to date on the latest tricks and trends.
Melissa Jones is an Investigator for Crum & Forster, a leading national property, casualty and accident & health insurer with a large, diversified specialty platform. Melissa specializes in social media, open source intelligence (OSINT), and background investigations. She is proud to serve on the board of directors for the New Jersey Special Investigators Association. Melissa earned her Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Arizona State University in 2020. Prior to that, she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology at Ramapo College. In her free time, she is passionately involved in the ball hockey community and is currently the commissioner of the Women’s Tier of the National Ball Hockey League.

With a foundation built over three decades of experience, Joe's career has spanned the realism of law enforcement, the complexity of insurance special investigations, to the cutting-edge realm of technology development. As an internationally recognized expert in insurance fraud, Joe's expertise extends into the nuanced fields of social media, mobile device analytics, and IoT data, all underpinned by a new & profound understanding of Artificial Intelligence's role in modern investigations. Joe's work is not just about pioneering new tools in the fight against fraud and advancing the application of machine learning technology in investigative practices; it's about shaping a safer digital world. Beyond his professional pursuits, Joe is an avid car enthusiast, and finds balance in life through the tranquility of being off grid on his farm in Canada.

AUTOMOBILE DAMAGE FRAUD WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Mohan Deokinandan, Farmers Insurance
This session will review different methods of inspection widely used by carriers and mechanisms that can be used to defeat fraud prevention efforts; go over certain technical indicators of auto fraud that are not often caught and how to identify them; and touch on the value of forensic engineering/experts involvement in claims processing, and other technical information available from vehicles to aid in claim processing (Key data, EDR data, Infotainment data, Hybrid/battery data, Pre/post scan data, AllData, OBD diag, App data & fluid sampling)
Mohan Deokinandan is a lifetime automotive hobbyist. He started designing & building his own cars at a young age. He was a top tech at a performance automotive center in Plainview, Long Island. After leaving the performance industry he went to work at Farmers insurance as an auto damage Estimator and Special Investigator. He is a member of the SIU National Auto Team where he has focused on auto vehicle damage investigations working with multiple agencies and law enforcement as an industry expert. He is currently the SIU National Automotive Technical Consultant filling a need for handling investigations into the most complex & technical auto cases around the country. As vehicle technology advances, so will he; having maintained ASE Master Certification, ASE Auto Damage Analysis Certification and is I-CAR Platinum. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive Industry-Engineering Technology from the University of New York, Farmingdale.

Thomas Burke, Retired Detective, New York City Police Department
The VIN is like the social security number for motor vehicles. Vehicle Identifiers have use confidential VINS to determine the true VIN of a vehicle since day 1. The importance of the Confidential VINs in a notorious case study and the introduction of NYACTs Super VIN.
Thomas Burke is a Retired 1st Grade Detective Investigator with the New York City Police Department with over 39 years of experience, 30 in Auto Crime. Federal and State Court certified expert in all aspects of vehicle related crimes, including forensic vehicle identification, vehicle theft, vehicle identification numbers (VIN’s), insurance fraud, hidden compartments, street racing and vehicle/parts appraisals. Burke was an expert Witness in numerous notable investigations and as a result the recipient of numerous awards and recognition in forensic investigations. Burke was the Director of NYPD’s “Fundamentals of Auto Crime” course for over 18 years, college accrediting more than 21,000 students in the art and science of motor vehicle investigations, and the creator of NYPD's Vehicle Photographic Identification Certification Course. He has lectured internationally on all aspects of vehicle related crimes and is a NYACT Board of Director, President International Assoc. of Auto Theft Investigators(IAATI NE Chapter), President of Vehicle Investigations N Solutions (VINS) Adjunct Professor in Criminology, 400.00 course series, at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.
